I keep getting older and older, and realizing that most of the thing i grew up with are dead and gone.Even though now, it seems they are raping the 80’s, and the 90’s, trying to bring these things back, in my opinion, it’s just not the same. When someone said to me once “whats a record?” I knew i was getting up there.Even though records were part of nostalgia when i was younger, the fact that this kid didn’t even know what one were, was depressing. But there was a time, i kid you not, where MTV actually had music on their channel, where the Transformers rules weekday mornings, and you actually couldn’t wait until Saturday morning for cartoons. Almost everything out now is complete crap, or is something they re-hashed from the past.Have we become so lazy as a society that we can’t even think up original ideas anymore? Reality TV, full of bad actors and shitty plots, remake after remake or Horror flicks (which don’t get me wrong, MOST of those are better then the originals) and absolute garbage that is being made to be called Toys these days want to send me into coma until things are better. Now, your average child now doesn’t realize what he has missed, and maybe this is just my opinion, but i believe that 10-15 years ago the products were far better then they are now.Shit is NOT build to last anymore, it’s only built to last so long, then you have to buy a new one.A warrenty is a joke, and most products on the market should be burned to ash.Do any kids know that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are NOT new? That they had 10 years worth of episodes from the original series, and 3 major motion pictures? Nope.Do kids know that games like “NARC”, “Defender” and “Pac Man” have been out for a generation now? No, not really.I know that vintage is in now, but do they really realize how cool the stuff was when it was NEW? It was an amazing time.I would say from 1980, to 1995, then everything started to get crappy.
All hail The Transformers, G.I. Joe, He-Man, Atari, Nintendo, Thundercats, Back To The Future, The original Star Wars trilogy, Indian Jones, Pac Man, and all those characters that originated from the 80’s.I know they called it “the dark ages of cartoons” , cartoons that were only made to sell a product, but what the hell do they think is happening now? It’s the same thing, only the other way around.
Take a stand, send Dora back to Mexico, send Barney’s ass to the museum, and let’s remember the 80’s for what it was…the 80’s.
We miss you Q-bert.
